A change of direction

Hey there folks, how’s it going?

I want to share some ideas and thoughts with you this week.

Hopefully, we’ll get a good conversation started about where you want to see Monument Cycling go.

What?

Monument Cycling is, first and foremost, my way of giving back to the cycling community after years of enjoyment and participation.

What started out as a great vehicle for organising a summer league of races has seen the growth of a wonderful community.

Now, the world is having a bit of a reset - perhaps for just a few months, maybe for even longer - but it’s got me thinking about what I can do that could be helpful and worthwhile for you, at least until we’re racing again!

Ah, yes! Racing.

Some people are only here for the racing, and I totally respect that. Once things are back to normal on that front, we’ll be throwing around free entries for everyone*.

You can already find a regular podcast with input from special guests, and there’s a strong social media community on Instagram (someone needs to remind me to post to Twitter and Facebook).

But, in the meantime, what do you think of a weekly email covering a different topic each week?

This feels like another piece of the puzzle; something else that might be worth doing.

What do you think? I hate the instantly forgettable nature of modern emails, so lets buck the trend and go with something offering a little more value: tips; tricks; musings?

Please do reply to this email if you have anything to add/any question/topics you’d like covered - I quite enjoy replying to comments and emails as a source of procrastination.

Have a great week!

Owen

PS: Please hit the <reply> button and let me know what you thought of this email. I’d love to hear your thoughts on what was useful about it and what could be changed. Thanks!

*Free entries for everyone may not actually happen.

My favourite things this week

1 - Blog - Leah Dixon's blog on Welsh Cycling detailing how she was using lockdown to better herself as a rider

2 - Rapha Challenge Club - Rapha have been putting a lot of things out there to get people moving. I particularly like their take on the road less travelled - 15 left turns and 15 right turns in your next ride

Quote of the week

Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race.
